Hunter Water Caught Out
How can we trust this State Government and its instrumentalities to provide the NSW public, and Hunter Water ratepayers in particular, with the truth when underhand and misleading tactics are being used to justify the damming of the Williams River, with the loss of up to 3,500 hectares of prime farming land, for the controversial and highly questionable proposed Tillegra Dam.
At the Tillegra Dam Community Reference Group Meeting of 5 December 2007 Hunter Water gave all members of the group present a copy of a recent article by an anonymous journalist, which appeared in Water Engineering Australia journal of December 2007. The article ‘justifies’ the Tillegra Dam proposal in glowing terms.
However, Hunter Water has been caught out as it has now been revealed that the anonymous author was in fact Hunter Water themselves.
A letter has been sent by the No Tillegra Dam Group to the Minister responsible for Hunter Water, Nathan Rees, for a “please explain” of the actions of Hunter Water in this misleading and deceptive conduct.
Everyone must think about the way things have been handled to date. Hunter Water ratepayers must seriously question the controversial proposed Tillegra Dam and all its implications. It will affect not only the people of Dungog but the whole of the lower Hunter region now and for generations to come. There are far better, more cost effective and less environmentally destructive methods of water harvesting and storage.
